Ever been completely obsessed with someone you could never have? "Saving Aleah" is the song I wrote about that feeling. It was back in high school for me. Aleah was the prettiest and most popular girl, and I was unbelievably lucky to sit next to her in choir. You know that alluring sweet spot where the tenors meet the altos? That was us, musically and... well, in my head at least. She was taken, but in my teenage mind, he just didn't get her. "He could never love you like I do."
This song was initially only for myself to hear, but one day, our teacher assigned us a project to showcase an original piece of music. Feeling brave, I decided to perform Saving Aleah for her, and the entire class. Years later, I still remember when we got voted most likely to become famous, and her heartfelt yearbook letter to me.
