This song was technically not released under The Second Messenger name. I had started making this recording about a year before its release as an opportunity to practice recording the Alesis Strike Pro electronic drum set I had at the time, which you can hear on this track. This was also back when I was first getting to know Kevin, before we had any plans to work together. He overheard me working on the song and mentioned that we shared a love for it, from its unique chord progression to that super satisfying key change. It really is a masterclass in songwriting.
I decided to let Kevin lay down a lead vocal track since we both deeply appreciated the songwriting talents of Adam Schlesinger, the principal writer of "Stacy's Mom" and bassist for Fountains of Wayne. I wasn't ever really planning on releasing this recording, but shortly after I founded The Second Messenger during the 2020 pandemic, Adam Schlesinger passed away due to complications with the coronavirus. I decided then to release this song to show support and share Adam's talents with the world. He was an extremely talented musician and an enormous inspiration to artists like myself, and he will be deeply missed.
Unfortunately, my version of "Stacy's Mom" will never be fully finished, but honestly, nothing will ever compare to the original anyway. I hope you enjoy this as an homage to the original track and to Adam.
